This prickly shrub🌵🪴 (or small tree) is part of the citrus family and has leaves that smell like lime when crushed, but don’t be fooled! Unlike true limes, its tiny fruits aren’t juicy. Instead, they’re dry, peppery capsules that were historically used as a spice or medicinal remedy. It’s also a host plant for the Giant Swallowtail butterfly, whose caterpillars mimic bird droppings as camouflage while munching on the leaves. 🦋🐛
