When its low-growing mats are covered by sand dunes, it simply grows vertically through the new sand, helping to stabilize and build the dune from the inside out. This incredible adaptation makes it a foundational species for creating and protecting coastal habitats. This plant is ahalophyte (salt-loving plant).
