Fun Fact: The Pond Apple 🍎 is a master of oceanic dispersal. Its spongy, buoyant fruit can float in saltwater for months without the seeds losing viability. This allows the species to drift across oceans and colonize new tropical coastlines. Because of this, it's considered a pantropical species, found natively in Florida, the Caribbean, West Africa, Central and South America, and even Southeast Asia and Australia.🌎 While the fruit is not poisonous, it's generally considered inferior to its famous cousins. The pulp is mealy, fibrous, and not very sweet, often described as having a faint, turpentine-like aftertaste. It's mostly eaten by wildlife or occasionally by people in survival situations. This is why it's grown more for its useful roots than for its fruit.🌳
