Fun fact: It's a rare and elusive plant so specialized to its habitat that it's often called the "Pinewoods Snowberry," because it grows almost exclusively in the pinelands and rocky pine forests of southern Florida and the Bahamas, often in the literal shade of pine trees. It produces striking white, glossy berries that look like tiny snowballs. These fruits are eaten by birds (e.g., mockingbirds, warblers) and small mammals, which help disperse the seeds. The berries are technically drupes and contain a single seed each.🐦🪴
