Fun fact: 🌿It undergoes a dramatic transformation as it matures. When young, its leaves are long, narrow, and serrated, almost resembling jagged spear tips, an adaptation thought to deter browsing by moa (the extinct giant flightless birds). As the tree grows taller (reaching up to 15 meters), its adult leaves become shorter, wider, and smoother, looking completely different from its juvenile form. This unique change is called heteroblasty, and it makes horoeka one of New Zealand’s most visually striking plants! 🌿
