Fun fact: Its leaves are incredibly thick, fleshy, and juicy. They function like miniature water storage tanks. When the plant takes up salty water from the soil, it stores a large amount of the fresh water in its leaf tissues. This stored fresh water effectively dilutes the salt concentration inside the plant, making it less toxic and allowing it to survive in the saline environment. It is typically found in the most extreme saline environments, often on bare limestone rocks, coral rubble, and jagged coastlines in the Caribbean and Florida Keys. It thrives in places where very few other plants can even get a foothold.🌊🌴
